No. ParkWijs never takes a payment and never starts or stops a parking session. It tells you that the spot looks like a paid one and nudges you to pay in whichever parking app you already use, then reminds you to stop the session when you drive off. Paying is yours to do.

When your phone disconnects from your car's Bluetooth or CarPlay (you switch the car off and step away), ParkWijs checks your location and tells you whether you are in a paid parking zone. Open the app after parking and it confirms straight away.

No. ParkWijs has no sign-up and no login. There is nothing to set up but your car. It works the moment you install it.

On your phone. ParkWijs has no backend and no servers, so your location and your settings are never uploaded. The app does download parking rules one municipality at a time, and map search goes to Apple; the privacy policy lists exactly what crosses the network.

iOS 26.1 and later, with Alarms allowed for ParkWijs: it is a real alarm, the same kind the Clock app uses. It sounds through the silent switch and through Focus, and keeps ringing until you stop it.

Older iOS, or Alarms not allowed: it is a time-sensitive notification. iOS shows it during Focus, but the silent switch mutes its sound. If you ignore it, it comes back after 5 minutes and again after 10, then stops. Swipe once and it stops.

Either way, delivery is up to iOS and your own settings, so treat it as a helpful nudge rather than a guarantee.

Street-parking zones across the Netherlands, built on the Dutch national parking register. Tap any area on the map to see whether it is paid, free, or covered by a permit, and the price. How complete that register is varies by municipality. Where the data is missing or unclear, ParkWijs says “Check” and asks you to read the sign rather than guessing.

Garages appear as pins on the map. Tapping one shows its name and address and links to the website listed for it in Apple Maps, which is usually the operator's. Any prices or free-space counts there come from that site, not from ParkWijs.

The first month is free. After that it is €1,99 a month, charged to your Apple Account, and it renews by itself until you cancel. There are no ads and no account to make.

On your iPhone: Settings → tap your name at the top → Subscriptions → ParkWijs → Cancel Subscription. Do it at least a day before it renews. Cancelling during the free month costs you nothing. Apple handles all billing, so refunds go through Apple too — use reportaproblem.apple.com.

You get the free month like everyone else. After that ParkWijs needs a subscription to work at all: without one it stops watching for parks and stops alerting, and opens on the subscribe screen. If you would rather not, nothing is taken from you; let it lapse or delete the app.

Yes. Parking data is already on your phone, and your subscription keeps working for a couple of weeks without reaching the App Store — so an underground garage, a tunnel, or a holiday with data switched off will not silence the alarm.

Usually a permission. Open iOS Settings, find ParkWijs, and check that Location is set to Always and that Notifications and Alarms are switched on. Without Always the app cannot notice a park while it is closed, and with alerts off it has no way to reach you. In both cases ParkWijs now says so on its own Status screen. It can also simply miss a park: detection relies on your car's Bluetooth audio and on what iOS permits in the background.

The sign. ParkWijs reads the Dutch national parking register, which is more detailed in some municipalities than others and can be out of date. Always go by the signage and the parking machine. If you spot a zone we have wrong, tell us and we'll look at it.
